About the Project

At Lemonade Stand Bootcamp, I was a Graphic Designer/ Motion Designer and contributed to the project “Mo Money Musical.” In this project, I designed characters in Illustrator and rigged them for animation in Adobe Animate. I also proofread scripts for quality and storyboarded scenes alongside my team.

Tyreke

I was tasked with refining Tyreke’s character design for the “Mo Money Musical” project. I was in charge of his design, expressions, turnaround, and storyboarding his song for scene 1.

Problem

Looking at the older version, I was able to identify two main changes to address. The first issue is that it is not optimized for rigged animation, and the second issue is that it has limited and inconsistent views.

Solution

So, I traced the front-facing view and drew the other views frame by frame in Clip Studio Paint. I made sure they were more consistent by playing them back. Also, I lightly drew an X-ray of what limbs look like underneath layers. After that, I was able to do the vector finals of each view in Adobe Illustrator.

The Final Turnaround

Here is the final character turnaround for Tyreke. I simplified the shadows, shapes and made the design more consistent for animation. Now, I can create more assets and references for his expressions, hand gestures, and other items that will be within the scene.
